This Is A Very Interseting Aritcle About The History Of The Weber

1951:1958:1989:1993:1995:

Company History:

Family-owned Weber-Stephen Products Co. manufactures the Weber grill, a brand name that over the years has become all but synonymous with outdoor barbecue grilling. A sales leader in charcoal grills since the companys inception in the 1950s, Weber-Stephen has in more recent years developed a line of gas grills, a market in which the company was late in pursuing. Based in the Chicago area, Weber-Stephen is not only privately held, it is extremely private in general, taking on the personality of publicity-shy George Stephen, who invented the Weber Kettle Grill and ran the company for more than 30 years. Eleven out of his 12 children have been employed by Weber-Stephen. All decline to be interviewed by the press.

BarbecuingA Developing American Pastime: 1800s-1940s

Many houses in the early 1900s featured brick or stone fireplaces in the backyard where outdoor cooking was done. In cases where people were required to burn their own trash, backyard incinerators were modified to accommodate grilling. Many people fashioned barbecue grills and smokers out of wine barrels, oil drums, trash cans, water heater tanks, and metal roofing. Rather than using hot coals, these grills relied on wood and kindling. An unlikely man would develop a more convenient fuel that would greatly increase the popularity of backyard barbecuing. His name was Henry Ford.

Turn Off Your Gas At The Main And At The Canister

Were changing two gas sources here, so before we do anything we need to turn off both before we proceed. Its important to take strict safety precautions, and halting all gas flow is the best way to do this.

Firstly, switch off your natural gas at the main. Next, disconnect your propane bottle or canister, and store it away. As an added measure, open a valve to allow any residual gas from the manifold to escape, before then setting every valve to off. This should ensure that all gas has left the grill.

How To Connect Weber Traveler Grill To Rv Quick

Question:

I have a Weber Traveler grill that uses the 1lb propane bottles. I want to hook this up to my quick connect on my RV. What connections do I need and would I need to remove regulator from the weber?

asked by: Kevin P

Expert Reply:

You’ll be able to connect your Weber Traveler Grill directly to that quick-disconnect fitting using a how like the MB Sturgis. Since your grill has a regulator you will need to determine if it has a standard regulator or a mini regulator. If it has a standard regulator you can either remove the regulator or install a tee fitting like so that you are bypassing the regulator on your RV. If you have a mini regulator then you will still need the regulator on you grill for it to operate properly.Attached is a helpful article that goes over some of this in a little more detail for you to check out.

Cleaning And Maintenance Of Your Gas Grill

Weber is a great brand when it comes to longevity. Gas grills come with a 10 year comprehensive parts warranty. You can safely use a Weber gas grill 15 years. Here are a few tips on getting the best performance out of your bbq:

How often do I need to clean?

It is a good idea to clean your grill two times a year. If you experience uneven heat, low temperature output from burners or too many flare-ups, its time for a good clean. Start your clean from the top and make your way to the bottom of the grill.

Cleaning the inside of the lid

Over time you will notice a “paint-like” black flaky deposit on the side of the lid. These flakes will eventually peel and fall on your food. Therefore, it is a good idea to clean them off using a brush. You can even wipe these deposits with a paper towel when the grill is warm.

Clean what is under the grates

Weber has 4 functional tiers built on top of the burners. On the top you will see the cooking grates . Right under the grates you will find the triangular stainless steel flavorizer bars. Flavorizer bars help catch grease and turn that grease into smoke to add flavor of your food. Heat deflectors are right under the burners and distribute the heat generated by the powerful burners. Each of these tiers are modular and you can clean them with a stainless steel bristle brush.

The Hard Part Of The Conversion

The hardest part of performing the conversion is figuring out what size orifice you need based on your grill. The size of the orifice Weber uses has changed over the years. Depending upon when your grill was made and whether it had front or side mounted burners there are different sized orifices.

Some examples:

Part # 88832: 3/8 inch orifice for Weber Genesis and Spirit grills with Side Mounted Burner Controls

Part # 88815: 7 mm orifice for Weber Genesis and Spirit grills with Side Mounted Burner Controls

Part # 88813: 1/4 inch orifice for Weber Summits made after 2005.

A few days ago, there was a terrible story in the news about a gas grill explosion in Florida that injured two people and terrified many more in the neighboring apartment complex. Every year, when summer approaches and grilling season begins, we hear stories like these.

Its likely that you havent read the owners handbook that came with your Weber gas barbecue in a long time. Here are some general guidelines for starting a gas barbecue. For safe lighting directions, please refer to your grills owners handbook.

    • Remove the lid.
    • Check that all of the burner control knobs are turned off.
    • Turn on the grills gas. Allow a few seconds for the gas to enter the valve system before proceeding.
    • Set the appropriate burner control knob to START/HIGH .
    • To ignite the grill, turn on the ignition. If your grill has a mechanical button, press it multiple times until it clicks. Hold down the button on your grills battery-powered lighter.
    • Make sure the burner is turned on.
    • If the burner does not ignite, set the burner control knobs to OFF and wait 5 minutes for the gas to clear before attempting to light it again or with a match.

Failure to close the lid when lighting, or failure to wait 5 minutes for the gas to clear if the grill does not ignite, may result in an explosion that can inflict significant bodily harm or death.

Why Cant I Get My Charcoal Grill Hot Enough

    Sold

If your grill is full of ashes from the last time you grilled it can impede the proper flow of air inside of the kettle, which makes the coals burn cooler. Fire needs oxygen, and if enough ash builds up inside of the grill it can make it next to impossible to get the coals burning well, or to keep them lit.
