Grilling corn in foil won’t provide any char or smoky flavor, but it does keep the kernels moist. It’s also a very forgiving method, so it’s great when you can’t constantly watch the cornor if you want to cook the corn over a campfire or at a park.

1. Shuck the corn like the first two methods and wrap each cob in heavy-duty foil before placing on the grill or over the fire.

How long to grill corn in foil: Place the foil-wrapped corn on a grill heated to medium-high and cook, turning occasionally, for about 15 minutes. Let cool slightly before carefully unwrapping.

Microwaving, steaming, boiling, and pressure cooking provides similar textures, giving plump and juicy kernels. No matter how you like it, Ive got a technique for you to master.

How To Grill Corn Perfectly Every Time

To grill the corn on a backyard BBQ, simply place the corn cob husks directly on hot grill gratesabout 450°F to 500°F. Keep the corn in its husks to steam, close the grill cover, and turn the cobs with tongs every five minutes or so.

When the grilled sweet corn is finished cooking, the husks should have a good char but they shouldnt be totally black.

After grilling, peel back the husks, remove the silk, and enjoy with basic butter and season with salt, or go a bit more gourmet with one of my favorite infused compound butters.

How To Grill Corn In Foil:

  • Preheat Grill to Med/High. Shuck corn to remove husks. Leave the corn whole or break corn into the desired size. Wrap each ear of corn with a generous sheet of aluminum foil, making sure all sides are covered. If using regular kitchen-standard foil, wrap in a double layer of foil so your corn doesnt get scorched.
  • Grill foil-wrapped corn with the lid closed over medium/high heat, rotating the corn every 2 -3 minutes to keep from scorching. Grill for 15-20 minutes. Ours was done at 18 minutes.
  • Once the corn is finished grilling, remove foil, and brush generously with Lemon Dill Butter while warm. Serve immediately .
  • Pro Tip: I dont add any butter or oil to the cob inside the foil. The corn is naturally juicy and the foil seals in the moisture. You also dont have to worry about oil leaking out of the corn and causing fiery flare-ups on the grill.

    Now that your corn is grilled, you can eat it off the cob or you can remove the kernels to use it in other recipes like Fresh Sweet Corn Salad.

    1. To cut kernels off the cob, stand the ear of corn upright. Holding the top of the cob with one hand, position your knife against the cob at the top and cut downward with one stroke.

    2. The corn kernels from a few rows will fall to your work surface. Continue all the way around the cob until you’ve removed all the kernels.

    Key Tip Dont Overcook The Corn

    The trick to great grilled corn is to cook it long enough to get a char, but not so long that the kernels end up juiceless and dry.

    When you grill corn the way I do without the husk, its inevitable that youll get some shrivelled kernels, like you can see below, but we want to minimise those shrivelled patches whilst still getting some nice charred bits for flavour.

You can pre-wrap your ears before leaving home and they are ready to toss into the campfire when you get to your campsite! It does make it easier after the corn is done when removing the husks. But I find the corn more easily dries out this way, and the best way for juicy grilled corn on the cob is to not mess with the husks.
    • Want grill marks? If you want some grill marks on your corn on the cob, , you can pull off a few of the outer husk leaves, leaving less of a barrier between the outer leaves and the corn cob, for more the charring to reach the corn.
