My friends, this is a must. I make grilled cheese without butter! Swap out the butter on the outside of the sandwich for mayonnaise. Cook mayonnaise side down in the pan.

Your grilled cheese will come out perfectly golden with a crust that doesnt get soggy and is not greasy!

If the pan is too hot, the cheese wont melt before the outside is cooked. If you notice the cheese taking awhile, cover it with a lid. The steam will help melt the cheese so it cooks evenly!

    Making a grilled cheese sandwich with shredded cheese at home is exceptionally straightforward. In a large skillet, you can make 2 pieces of sandwich. Only be careful when flipping the bread.

    Required Ingredients:

    • Chopped green onion
    • Unsalted butter

    Instructions:

  • Firstly, aim to apply a thin layer of Dijon Mustard at one side of the bread. Make a combo of green onion and grated cheese by stirring them and keep aside.
  • Since you are preparing 2 large pieces of bread, take a large skillet. Place it on a medium heat stove. Then put 1teaspoon of butter and let it melt. Next, take the mustardy bread and place one side of the bread into the skillet. Ensure keeping the mustard side face up.
  • Now, take the combo of green onion and grated cheese, put ¾ layer of cheese on the bread. After that, cover the combo with the other pieces of bread. Then cover the skillet using a lid. Wait for several minutes until the underside gets golden-colored.
  • Use a spatula to remove the sandwich. Take another spoon of butter and put it into the skillet. After the butter is melted, place the other side of the bread into the buttery pan. Cover the pan and wait for several minutes until the bread becomes golden-colored.
  • Once the sandwich is ready to remove, use a spatula to do it after placing it on a cutting board, wat for a few minutes so that the food can get relaxed. Use a serrated knife to cut the sandwich into 2 pieces.

    My top choice is sharp cheddar cheese because its combination of firmness and flavor. This cheese has a solid structure that holds together and stretches nicely when heated, and during its aging process, it undergoes complex flavor development as it ripens. Other fallback options with similar firm characteristics are swiss cheese, gruyere, gouda, Monterey jack, pepper jack, and mozzarella.

    Plastic wrapped American cheese is a convenient choice, although its flavor tends to be saltier. Kids usually dont mind, but this may turn off some adults. Soft and spreadable brie while delicious, can get a bit greasy when melted. For a stronger flavored sandwich, you can sprinkle on Parmesan or blue cheese in combination with one of the mild-flavored firm cheeses.

    Making an air fryer grilled cheese is even easier than making it on the stovetop!

    All you need to do is to add the cheese to one slice of bread then put the other slice on top.

    Butter both sides of the sandwich and put it in the air fryer.

    Can grilled cheese get even better than the classic bread, cheese, and butter combo? I know thats hard to beatbut the answer is YES! And its SO easy to do!

    If you have ten extra seconds in your grilled cheese making process then you have time to take it to the next level. This is a super easy hack to kick the classic version up a notch. And youll be SO glad you did.

    Grilled cheese sandwiches are one of my all-time favorite foods. When it comes to vegetarian comfort food, or any comfort food for that matter, you really cant beat it.

    When I say grilled cheese is right up there with mac and cheese as far as my favourite foods, I mean it. And if you know anything about me and how much I love mac and cheese, you know thats a BIG statement!

    Mayo Or Butter When And How

    My cheesemonger friend got me onto using mayonnaise instead of butter.

    Its always spreadable, it gives you a fabulous golden-brown crust thats not as apt to burn as butter, and it offers just a little zip.

    My favorite brands are Hellmanns/Best Foods and Dukes. I havent tried Miracle Whip , but I figure its too sweet to work well here. You can also make your own mayoits actually just as easy as making a grilled cheese!

    Give mayonnaise a shot! Use the same amount as you would butter.

    If you are 100 percent Team Butter, I understand. You can either butter the bread directly or melt a pat of butter in the pan. I prefer to butter the bread directly, but lets say your butter is straight from the fridge and rock-hard. In that case, melt it in the pan.

    One of my colleagues here at Simply Recipes swears by this approach and uses it in his Italian Grilled Cheese Sandwiches.
