Where To Store Your Grill For Winter
You dont have to bring your grill inside, but if you have grill storage space in your garage, that would be preferable. Consider indoor grill storage if there will be an extended period of freezing weather in your region. Clear out some space and keep your grill inside, or at least ensure it is kept dry and under shelter.
For optimal grill storage, youll want a dry, well-ventilated area that doesnt get too hot or too cold for any significant amount of time.

How To Clean Bbq Drip Tray
The BBQ tray is one of the hardest parts to clean, especially if you dont do it often. You should clean the drip pan on 4-5 uses of the BBQ. Swelled grease can cause a fire hazard.
To avoid scrubbing the tray for hours to clean it, you can line it up with aluminium foil. Putt sand inside the tray just enough to cover the bottom of it. The sand will absorb most of the grease, and the foil will protect the tray. When the BBQ tray is full, remove the sand and the foil. Can You Run The Hose Through Your Grill’s Exterior
No, it is not recommended for you to run the hose through the surface of the grill. It will damage the grill and probably make you to replace it, especially if the water goes inside the burners.
What you can do instead, is that you can use a hose to clean the soapy water from external parts of the grill, such as the lid or the side panels. However, even in those parts, you should be very careful to only use the hose gently.

Rub Down Inside The Lid And Sides
Scrub the inside lid and sides down gently with a scourer and warm soapy water.
Make sure that you start with the lid and work your way down the sides, with the bottom of the grill being the last bit to clean later, otherwise youll end up cleaning it twice.
Dont aim for factory new looking here, it is not going to happen. Just make sure any build up is largely removed so it cannot flake onto your food during regular use.
Grab Your Grill Brush For Quick Clean Grates
Unlike cast iron, the grates on your Nexgrill are not designed to lock in any seasoning, so theres no reason to leave oil on it overnight.
Take your handy grill brush and give those grates a nice, easy scrub. Any leftover food should come off without much effort. If you dip your grill brush in a bowl of water before you scrub, the steam actually helps the cleaning process. Dip frequently, and be sure to wear a grill mitt to protect your hand from the heat and steam.

Clean The Heat Deflectors
Many gas grills have thin steel plates, angled in the shape of a “V,” that separate the burners from the cooking chamber. These heat deflectors serve to distribute heat evenly around the cooking chamber and prevent the gas flames from burning the foods directly overhead. Grease and food residue often drips down onto these deflectors.
Clean the deflectors after every three of four uses of the grill by removing them from the cooking chamber and scrubbing them with warm soapy water and a nylon brush or scrubbing pad. Dry them completely before putting them back in the grill.
Oil Your Grill Grates
With the grates still warm from drying out the grill in the last step, soak a couple of paper towels in vegetable oil, take your tongs and rub the towel over your hot grates.
I recommend wearing some good, heat-resistant BBQ gloves to be sure of no burns.
This will help to prevent corrosion and prolong the life of your grates, as well as stop food sticking to them as easily, so is an important step.

Season The Grill And Leave It Ready
After the burn off process is completed, turn off the burners and get ready to season the grates. This is very easy to do process and only requires you to lightly coat the grates with oil which will prevent your food from sticking to the surface next time you grill.
Get a paper towel and drip it in canola oil. Using some tongs, rub the oily paper on the surface of the hot grates, by slightly covering them up.
Stop after you are sure that all the surface of the grate is oiled and ready to go.
Turn Off The Gas Supply
First things first, make sure you turn off the gas supply.
While this might seem like an obvious step, its often a forgotten one thats very important.
So, locate the source of the gas, whether thats the gas supply valve on a propane tank, or the connection point for natural gas supplied grills, and turn it off before you do anything.
And if in any doubt, as good ol Grandpa taught me, righty tighty, lefty loosey.

Cover Your Gas Grill Between Use
Be sure to cover your grill in between uses with a cover as this will help to keep it clean and presentable, as well as prolonging its life.
A cover stops dust collecting, insects and even animals getting inside, and just generally protects it from the elements.
A good grill cover might seem like an unnecessary expense, but they more than pay for themselves by lengthening the time between grill replacements.

Remove And Clean Grill Grates
Put the grill grates into a large basin or a deep utility bucket and cover them with warm to hot water and a grease-fighting soap, such as Dawn dish soap. Let the grates sit in the soapy water for an hour.
Afterwards, you should be able to easily wipe off any stuck-on debris with paper towels or a sponge. If you have any particularly difficult bits, you can remove them using a scrubbing pad, steel wool, or even a crumpled-up piece of aluminum foil .
If youre unable to clean the grates sufficiently with soap and water, try a dedicated grill cleaning solution, white vinegar, or a gentle cleaning paste made of baking soda and water.
NOTE: To clean cast iron grill grates, skip the soaking step and use a sponge and warm water to remove debris. After cleaning, immediately dry the grates completely to prevent rust. Apply vegetable oil to clean grates as noted below in Step 6.
Continue to the next steps, which will vary depending on what type of grill you have.
Before You Start Consult Your Gas Grills User Manual
Taking something apart is easy, but putting it all back together, in the right place or order, is the tricky bit.
This is where your grill manual comes in handy, so you can be confident that everything goes back how it should.
While most grills work the same way, its still essential to consult your grill manual to ensure a thorough clean just in case any non-standard parts arent covered in this guide.
If you cant get your hands on your manual, many companies have electronic copies downloadable online, so check the manufacturers website or try typing your grill model into a search engine.
If this fails, then take photos as you take your grill apart, so you can see what parts go where and how to put it back together!

How Often Should I Clean My Grill Exterior
I recommend you to do a deep cleaning of your grill exterior at least a couple times per year. It may depend on how often you use the grill but if you occasionally use it on weekends or for bbq party with friends, 3-4 times per year I think is enough.
However, I suggest you do a quick cleaning of grates and remove any noticeable food bits off the grill after each use.

Turn Off The Gas Valve
Before you start the cleaning process, you should make sure that the gas valve of your grill is completely closed. You dont want any dangerous gasses running through your grill, especially when you are cleaning it.
Go to the propane tank and rotate the valve clockwise until it strengthens and no gas is running through.
In addition to that, if you are using natural liquid propane, locate the lever coming through the hose and close it down.

Deeper Grill Grate Cleaning
Take a close look at your grill grate, checking for both dirt and damage. If you dont clean your grill regularly, itmay have black carbon deposits caked on, which can trap bacteria, cause unevenheating and increase the risk of grease fires. Take notice if the enamel iscracked anywhere or if the nonstick coating has comeoff. Even small cracks in the enamel can let water and grease in, making itvulnerable to rusting. If your grill grate has cracked enamel or significantrust, you may want to replace it.
Now, spray your apple cider vinegar mixture ordegreaser on the grate, and wipe clean. Repeat as needed, until the paper towelcomes back without any residue.
Use Glass And Stainless Cleaner To Polish Such Surfaces
If your grill has any glass windows or stainless steel surfaces, spray with glass or stainless steel cleaner, wipe them with a sponge and wash away with the hose again.
Be sure not to use standard detergents as they can make your grill look dull, or even worse, cause damage.
Youve gone through this whole process to make your grill look fantastic, so be sure to treat your grill with specific cleaners that are right for the job if they do have glass or stainless steel components.

You dont have to clean every part of yourgrill every time, but you should always clean the grate. Food, grease and watercan build up on it quickly, causing corrosion in some cases. Steel grates canbe particularly vulnerable to damage as their coating wears off, but evenceramic-coated high-quality cast iron grill grates can be damaged byimproper handling, causing the coating to chip, and making the whole gratesusceptible to rust. Frequent cleaning will help ensure that it has a longlife, and keep your food tasting great, every time.
Before you clean your grill, its a good ideato check the manufacturers recommendation for which brush to use. Stainlesssteel and uncoated cast iron grates generally wont be damaged by a wire brush, but any grill grate that is porcelain coated may be vulnerable. Vacuum The Dirt And Charcoal Inside Your Grill
After removing the grates and metal pieces, you might see a lot of loose dirt, charcoal, and food sitting inside your grill. An easy way to remove all of this is to use your handheld vacuum cleaner. Use an extension cord if necessary. If you can use a vacuum, it will save you a lot of time.
If you dont have a handheld vacuum cleaner, then wipe up the loose dirt and charred food with a couple of rags. The grill can be pretty grimy so dont use new towels that you want to keep in great condition.
Scrub And Clean The Bottom
The bottom is just as important as the other parts.
Use a spatula or a metal scraper to scrub all of the food particles here and then vacuum.
After scraping, clean the bottom with soapy water.
Wipe gently with a sponge or towel.
Alternatively, you can use a hose or a pressure washer, if you have them.

Cast iron grill grates are durable and heat evenly but can be prone to rusting. If you open your grill to see rusty cast iron grates, dont despair. Reach for the baking soda, even if your cast iron grates dont easily come out of your grill.
- Make a paste of 1 ½ cups ARM & HAMMER Baking Soda, ¼ cup dish soap, and ¼ cup white vinegar in a small bowl. It should be a frothy liquid consistency that sticks to the grill grates.
- Using a brush, paint the grill grates with the paste, avoiding the heating elements if this is a gas grill. Close the grill. Note: do not turn the grill on.
- Let the paste sit for 8-12 hours or overnight.
- Use a nylon-bristled brush or scourer sponge to remove the loosened debris and grime.
- Use a damp sponge and warm water to wipe away any remaining residue.
Once all the rust is removed, thoroughly dry the grates and rub them with a generous amount of vegetable oil to coat them and protect from moisture. You can also turn the grill on high after coating with oil to help lock in the seasoning and be ready for your next BBQ.
