More than once, I let the grill sit with used charcoal in it for an extended period of time, even during a rain storm or snow storm. When moisture gets in there, that charcoal ash can get mucky and crusty, and it’s just not good for the grill. I have had the bottom of a grill get rusty and eventually rot out. Now I tend to clean out my grill ash after every few uses . If you clean it after every few uses, the ash will still be pretty loose and easy to scrape or remove with a small scoop. Check On Pellet Delivery
Sometimes your pellet grill may flame out for no obvious reason. I ran into this issue recently with the Weber SmokeFire EX6. With a rack of baby back ribs on the line, the smoker’s internal temperature began to drop 4 hours into my 5-hour cook. My target temp was 225 degrees F yet the cooker at that point was plummeting down to ambient outdoor air temperatures.
Plenty of pellets were in the hopper, too. I also didn’t see any tunneling — when fuel doesn’t slide down the sides of the hopper. This can cut off pellet flow to the spinning auger below that feeds the fire box.
The next step is to make sure there are no clogs between the pellet hopper and the auger. Shut your grill down and allow it to cool. Now place a large container under the pellet hopper. A bucket or sealed cardboard box will do the trick. Now open the hopper release door. Pellets should quickly flow from the hopper down into your container. With the hopper empty, check for any obstructions or debris blocking the entryway to the auger.

Cleaning The Exterior Of A Gas Grill
- Take out the foils or pans and cover the grills surface. Switch on the burners on the highest setting for a quarter-hour and allow the grill time to burn any food residue to make your cleaning process easier.
- After the 15 minutes elapses, close the valve to turn off the gas. Using a grill brush, vertically scrub the cooking grid area to get rid of the residue. Allow the grill to cool. Avoid direct contact with the grill until half an hour after cleaning.
- Raising your grills lid, brush off the residue from the grills roof with a plastic scraper. Scrub in a direction opposite from you to avoid injuries from the scraper slips. Allow all the dirt and debris to fall on the base of the lifted lid.
For the dirt that falls on the bottom of the lifted lid, remove using a vacuum. Set the vacuum to the highest suction setting and for larger pieces of debris, use a vacuums hose.
After that, wipe off the lid with a wet cloth. Vacuuming prevents the debris from dropping on the grills body when closing the lid.
When the grill is cool, remove the base, throw the ash residue into the trash and place it aside.
