Cuisinart Twin Oaks Dual Function Pellet And Propane Gas Grill

Materials Used And Construction

Cuisinart Twin Oaks Grill (2020 new review)

The Pit Boss Lockhart is made pretty much exclusively from powered coated steel. While the Pit Boss warranty is one the longest at 5 years, just like all the other pellet grill brands, it doesnt cover the durability of the paint finish or rust/corrosion.

Therefore, ideally, you wouldnt want to leave the pellet grill outside. Then again, as stated above, this Pit Boss is a bit of a beast. Therefore, even if you have space inside a garage or shed to store this pellet grill, getting in there when it weighs 275lbs is not going to be easy.

The insulated lid with viewing window and the use of stainless steel on the Cuisinart are some of its best features: Image Walmart.com

Im pretty sure the Cuisinart weighs quite a bit less than the Pit Boss, though I dont actually know that for a fact because Cuisinart doesnt state its weight. Its construction is predominantly painted steel.

However, it does feature quite a bit of stainless steel on the lid and around the control panel. Hence, corrosion resistance on those parts will be better than the Pit Boss once the paint starts to fail.

Though as most of the Cuisinart is still painted carbon steel, ideally you wouldnt want to store it out to the elements. The insulated lid of the Cuisinart is a particularly good feature. It probably means the Cuisinart will outperform the Pit Boss during winter cooking and it may even result in the Cuisinart achieving reduced pellet consumption.

Large 30lb Pellet Hopper And Quick Ash Removal Feature

Another feature that sets the Woodcreek and Twin Oaks pellet grills apart from the competition is their absolutely huge 30lb pellet hopper. On most pellet grills around this price point, you will find an 18lb hopper or maybe a 22lb pellet hopper. Any pellet hopper size over 20lbs benefits from the fact it can take a whole 20lbs bag of BBQ wood pellets in one go.

Furthermore, if you are doing a very long and slow cook of say brisket/pork butt overnight you want a larger pellet hopper. Well, at 30lbs the pellet hopper is far larger than the competition. There may be a premium pellet grill out there that has a pellet hopper of comparable size, but at this moment I cant actually think of one! It also features a pellet sensor to tell you when the hopper is empty. Its not as advanced as the Traeger pellet sensor, but that sensor is fitted to much more expensive grills.

The 30lb wood pellet hopper on the Woodcreek and Twin Oaks pellet grills is far above the industry average of 18-22 lbs: Image Walmart.com

Both the Woodcreek and Twin Oaks also benefit from a quick release ash removal system. You simply pull a slide valve and the ash drops down into the ashtray below. You can then quickly and easily slide out the ashtray. Now, this feature is not only found on Cuisinart pellet grills. Similar ash removal systems are also found on grills from Camp Chef and Broil King.

Limitations Of The Cuisinart Digital Control Panel

I do believe the Cuisinart controller is functional and easy to use. Furthermore, for a grill in this price range its comparable to several others in terms of features. In fact more so with the inclusion of Bluetooth and the Cuisinart app. However, I just want to make it clear how this digital control panel and its features compare to pellet grills at a slightly higher price point. If you notice, the control dial goes up in 25-degree increments up to 300 degrees.

After 300 degrees the temperature control jumps up in 50-degree increments. Similar to a first-generation Traeger Pro Controller. Therefore, you shouldnt expect precise temperature control. For instance, it will not be as accurate as the D2 Controller found on the Traeger Pro Series or the Camp Chef Gen 2 Controller. Both of those pellet grill controllers use PID technology, which you can learn more about in the video below.

The Cuisinart Woodcreek and Twin Oaks do not use a PID controller where some other brands of pellet grill do. The video above explains how a PID controller achieves tighter/more precise temperature control.

Also, I personally find Bluetooth quite hit and miss. Therefore, while the theoretical distance you can control the grill is 120ft, thats in open space. So from the other end of your yard/garden sure, not so much through the walls of your home.

Pit Boss Plantinum Series Pellet/gas Combo Grills

Cuisinart Twin Oaks GAS0356ASO Dual Function Pellet and Propane Gas ...

Pit Boss currently produce the widest range of 50/50 split pellet/gas combo grills. However, availability to actually pick up each of the models does vary.

For instance, the Navigator pellet/gas combo grill is only available from certain local retailers/speciality stores or directly from Pit-Bossgrills.com, and the same goes for the Sportsman pellet/gas combo grill.

The Pro Series 1100 gas/pellet combo grill is only available through Lowes. Though the most widely available Pit Boss pellet/gas combo grill is from their Platinum Series, the KC Combo.

The KC Combo Pellet/Gas Grill is one of two pellet grills/smokers as part of the Pit Boss Platinum Series: Image Walmart.com

The Pit Boss KC Combo for the price is not a bad deal at all. Furthermore, Pit Boss grills do come with a 5-year warranty, which is one of the longest available of the most popular pellet grill brands. Though you should note, that the paint finish and rust/corrosion are not included within the warranty.

You will not find much stainless steel if any on Pit Boss grills, as I discuss in my Traeger vs Pit Boss post, Pit Boss are targeting the value/budget segment of the market.

Pit Boss has now upgraded the Platinum Series with WiFi control panels to link up to the SmokeIT App. Previously, they only featured Bluetooth connectivity.

How Do They Compare On Price

So both Pit Boss and Cuisinart appear to have an exclusive deal in place with Walmart on these particular pellet grills. Though I should note, Cuisinart is also selling the Woodcreek directly through their own website.

The Pit Boss Lockhart retails for $747 at Walmart, whereas the Cuisinart Woodcreek is currently priced at $497 at Walmart and $599 when purchased directly through Cuisinart.com.

Hence, after reviewing the above if you thought the Cuisinart Woodcreek would suit your needs the best, its cheaper to purchase it from Walmart currently.

How Do You Utilize A Smoker Box On A Barbecue Grill

If your grill has a cigarette smoker box, you can cook tasty, delicious food quite quickly. Start by saturating timber contribute water for at least thirty minutes, which will certainly prevent them from capturing on fire. Pre-heat your grill for 10 to 15 minutes, then place the wood chips into the cigarette smoker box using tongs. Shut the cover of the box, along with the grills lid, and also wait on it to begin creating smoke. From right here, you can lower the grill temperature and organize your food on the grates over the unlit heaters.

Which Offers The Larger Cooking Area

I refer to these types of pellet/gas combo gills as 50/50 split grills. You also have other solutions such as the Camp Chef Sear Box/SideKick which is a propane bolt-on product to the side of an existing pellet grill/smoker.

The Pit Boss KC Combo provides a total of just over 1,000 square inches split pretty much evenly over the pellet grill and gas grill sections. The Cuisinart Twin Oaks is a little smaller at 900 square inches in total.

However, as you can see from the images above, the Cuisinart Twin Oaks does provide more height under the lids. Also, the Cuisinart features a handy little side propane burner as well which the Pit Boss KC Combo doesnt.

Easy Connect App Limitations

Cuisinart® Outdoor Grilling | Twin Oaks Pellet and Gas Grill

I really like being able to check out the internal temperatures from the app. The only thing is that you cant control your cooking temperatures from the app. It needs to be adjusted manually on the LCD controller display on the grill. But it shouldnt be a big problem in most cases. Worst case, you just step outside once or twice to adjust the temperature manually. It is not a big deal for me but I believe its worth the mention if its a feature that is important for you.

Which Has The Better Control Panel

I have a separate article on how wood pellet grills work, but essentially the control panel is at the heart of how every pellet grill works to start/stop the fire and control the temperature.

There is a pretty significant difference between the Pit Boss Lockhart and Cuisinart Woodcreek, the Pit Boss features a PID temperature controller whereas the Cuisinart does not.

What that means is the Pit Boss can control its temperature to within 5 degrees of the set temperature. Whereas the Cuisinart is only able to hold its temperature within 25 degrees of the set temperature. Quite simply, the Pit Boss has a superior/more accurate control panel over the Cuisinart.

The control panel on the Pit Boss Lockhart with PID/Bluetooth functionality is the superior of the two pellet grills: Image Pitboss-grills.com

However, both the Pit Boss and Cuisinart control panels do feature Bluetooth connectivity. Its important to not confuse Bluetooth capabilities with WiFi though, and I would preferably like to see both pellet grills with WiFi. Update, the Pit Boss now has WiFi connectivity as well.

Though both of these pellet grills are built to be as affordable as possible, and some people will never actually use WiFi to its true potential anyway. The point is though, Bluetooth is only capable of short-distance remote communication with the pellet grill.

Camp Chef Apex Grills Hybrid Gas/pellet Combo

If you have a bit more coin to spend and you are looking for a premium pellet/gas grill there is the new Apex. Available as either a 24 or 36 wide grill the Apex is not a 50/50 split or just a side propane attachment, its a true combination grill.

In other words, the entire cooking chamber can be used as a pellet grill/smoker and/or a gas grill. Hence, you can go from smoking the food with pellets to finishing off with a gas sear without having to move the meat. Alternatively, if you just need to quickly grill some burgers, then its a full-sized gas grill.

Currently, the Camp Chef Apex is the best premium pellet/gas grill on the market: Image CampChef.com

I have a separate article on the Camp Chef Apex if you want to do a deep dive into all its features. For instance, it features a noval easily removal grease tray. It also features a similar PID/WiFi control panel to the Camp Chef Woodwind grills mentioned above.

Do I think the Apex is a better solution to a smaller Camp Chef pellet grill with a propane Side Kick? Yes, but it also comes with a price premium as youll see below. Hence, for lower budgets, the propane Side Kick still has its place.

Cuisinart Twin Oaks Pellet And Gas Grill Reviews: Should You Have It

Torn between which pellet gas grill you should pick? What if we told you we know exactly which product would be a banger for your outdoor grilling experience?

Sounds good, Im sure.

Amongst the gust of pellet grills consuming the market, you will notice that all Cuisinart twin oaks pellet and gas grill reviews, including ours as the best eye-catchy alternative.

It will win your hearts and grumbling tummy with remarkable capacities, features, and the best part an impressive price point!

Introduction To Pellet/gas Combo Grills/smokers

So you may still be wondering why would you need/want to have a combo pellet/gas grill? After all, arent pellet grills/smokers operated through a control panel making them even easier/simpler to use than even a gas grill?

While thats true, there are two advantages that gas grills hold over pellet grills, and thats warm-up time and maximum temperatures for searing.

As I discuss in my article on which pellet grills get the hottest, some pellet grills get much hotter than others. Now, you can use GrillGrates to improve the searing performance of a pellet grill.

However, a gas grill is still going to be able to achieve higher searing temperatures of closer to 900 degrees. Best case scenario on a pellet grill with direct-flame and GrillGrates you will be looking a cooking surface temperature of 700 degrees.

GrillGrates can improve the grilling/searing performance of a pellet grill. However, a gas grill will still achieve a higher searing temperature and get to that temp more quickly: Image

Its the time aspect which is a significant consideration for many people. A pellet grill will take longer to get up to those high grilling/searing temperatures. Now thats likely not so much of a problem on lazy weekends.

Now, the time difference between getting a pellet grill and gas grill up to temp is not anywhere near as significant as comparing a charcoal and gas grill.

A To Z List Of The Best Bbq Wood Pellets

A pellet grill/smoker is only as good as the BBQ pellets you put into it. The type/quality of the BBQ wood pellets you use will impact temperature performance and smoke flavour. There are many pellet flavours including Apple, Hickory, Mapel, Oak and Walnut to name but a few. However, some brands are hardwood blended pellets whereas others are 100% single wood species.

In this article, I provide details on over 20 brands of BBQ wood pellets, their range of flavours, whether they are 100% single wood species or hardwood blended pellets, their typical price and where they are available. I also provide tips on how to get the best deal when buying BBQ wood pellets and how to test pellet quality. Finally, I discuss the new kid on the block, charcoal pellets and their special attributes compared to all other hardwood BBQ pellets.

Stainless Steel Insulated Lids With Viewing Windows

Cuisinart Twin Oaks Dual Function Grill vs Pit Boss Dual Fuel Grill

Normally when I discuss which features on a pellet grill stand out to me Ill start with the hopper size, ash management system etc. However, with Cuisinart Woodcreek and Twin Oaks grills, the first thing I want to draw your attention to is their lids.

Both units feature twin wall stainless steel insulated lids with viewing windows. Not only do you not find this feature on any other pellet grill in the economy/budget/practical segment, but you also dont find this feature on many premium pellet grills!

The insulated twin-wall stainless steel lids on the Woodcreek and Twin Oaks grills really is a standout feature: Image Walmart.com

For instance, you dont get a stainless steel lined lid on a Traeger Ironwood, you have to upgrade to a Timberline for a stainless steel insulated lid. Now, just to clarify, Im not claiming the Woodcreek/Twin Oaks pellet grills are comparable to premium grade pellet grills in other areas because theyre not. Read more about that in my Traeger vs Cuisinart post. However, with regards to their lids, they are easily a step above the competition in their price bracket.
