Weber Crafted System & Extra Side Storage Cabinet

Find the Model Number on Your Grill

We touched on the Crafted System earlier in this article so we wont go into more depth about what the system is in this particular section. Whats important to know are the models that come with the Crafted Frame Kit included. While the extra side storage cabinet is not a Crafted-branded accessory, it is related to the Crafted System. The cabinet is designed to store Crafted accessories.

You cannot purchase the extra side storage as an add-on later. This is a decision you have to make before purchasing a Genesis Grill. Do not confuse having to make a decision on the extra side storage cabinet before purchasing a model with doing the same on the Crafted Frame Kit. You can purchase the frame kit separately. It is only the extra side storage cabinet that is not sold separately.

Do You Need A Smart Grill

Do you really need a smart grill? There are other ways to get grilling smarts, without having to pay for them to be embedded. Ill say this if youre shopping for a higher-end Weber grill, its about a couple hundred dollars more to add in the smart module. You could just pay the $120 or so for the add-on, freestanding Weber iGrill gadget, too, but it is nice to have the tech built in the grill.

Date Code: C

After deciding that a Weber Smokey Mountain was the best bet for great BBQ at a reasonable price, I set off to find a smoker. I found this smoker through an online estate auction. The colored manual pictured in the auction led me to believe that it was an early model. As I read more, I got excited that I could be looking at an early 1980s model of the WSM. A few others drove the price up to $80, which I was glad to pay.

When I picked up the item I was pleased to find that the only parts that needed to be replaced were the food grates. It even came with the original teak wood handle in good condition as well as the original assembly guide and full color manual. I got excited when I saw the C date code stamp. I opted to purchase a new door since the original had obvious air gaps and was rather rusty due to its time in the elements. I was amazed at the wonderful condition of the rest of the unit. The legs are rusted over, but the porcelain finish is still in great condition. The charcoal grate is a bit rusty, but perfectly usable.

Weber Grill Regulator Problems & Solution

The root cause behind a grill not flaming up to a higher level is the leakage problem of the regulator which supplies propane gas to the grill for flaming. Today I will explain how you may get problems and their solutions. We will find out if you need a Weber grill reset regulator or something else, just stay tuned!

What Is A Regulator?

One of the basic functions of gas grill regulators is to deliver the gas from your propane tank to your grill. A common regulator consists of a polished silver color disc and it has two segments. The bulky part is attached to the LP gas tank and the other gets lined up with your gas grill through a pipeline.

Generally, the frontal part of the regulator gets hooked over the propane tank cylinder. Inside it has popliteal fittings and a spring which enables an easy adjustment of it with the LP gas cylinder. Included spring forces the regulator forward and underneath a screw is set for adjustment.

Classifications of Gas Grill Regulators

In general, there are 2 types of regulators available in the market. The first type is single hosed and the other one is double hosed. Inside any basic gas grills like Weber, Char-Broil, or Pitboss a single-hosed regulator is used usually. A standard single hose regulator is built to take up to 60,000 BTUs of gas.

The Grill Isnt Heating Up

17++ How Do I Know Which Weber Genesis Grill I Have info

This complaint is usually caused by issues with the regulator. The regulator is the small segment of pipe that connects the grill to the gas supply. Weber grill regulator problems can cause the burners to produce only a tiny glimmer of flameor sometimes none at all.

If the issue isnt with the igniter system or the gas supply, a regulator reset could do the trick. First, turn all the burner control knobs and the tank valve to their OFF positions. Take the regulator valve off the gas tank by pulling the metal collar toward the tank, then pulling the valve in the opposite direction.

When youve removed the valve, turn each burner knob to HIGH and wait for at least one minute, then switch them all off again.

Next, youll want to hook the regulator valve back up. Pull the metal collar back toward the tank and insert the tip of the valve directly into the tank. Make sure the valve is secure, then switch the tank valve back on. Attempt to use the grill as you normally would.

If the reset procedure doesnt solve your Weber grill regulator problems, it might be because the grill has gone into .

Since 1995, Weber has included a gas detection device inside all of its propane hoses or regulators. The use of this safety feature has been mandated by the federal government to reduce the inherent risks of cooking over a gas flame. Heres how it works.

It was the early 1950s, the brazier grill was king and George Stephen was not impressed. Braziers lacked lids, leaving food exposed to rain and flooding the coalbed with oxygen, creating uncontrollably hot fires. According to Smithsonian Magazine, Stephen, a salesman for Weber Brothers Metal Works, was filling out orders for buoys from the Coast Guard and Chicago Yacht Club when it hit him he needed a lid. He cut a buoy into two half-spheres, added legs and punched holes in the top and bottom for airflow. The Weber Kettle was born.

Webers original kettle remains its most popular grill today, but in the 60-plus years since its invention, the company has expanded. The Weber name is stamped on propane gas grills, smokers, electric grills and portable grills. There are sub-products under each category, each at different price points, and all with different features. Heres everything you need to know about the most famous name in grilling.

Are Your Parts Under Warranty

One last thing I recommend you do before buying parts is to READ your warranty. These grills come from Weber built to last and backed by a serious warranty that they fully support. The burner tubes carry a ten year warranty while other parts have coverage that varies between three to five years.

If you cant find the warranty for your gas grill then get in touch with Weber directly and they can help you determine what parts of your grill are still covered. Weber has great support and shipping costs are usually free for parts under warranty.

This site is a labor of love put together by me, David Somerville. I am NOT associated with Weber-Stephens in any way. If you purchase a part for your grill through one of the links on this site then I will make a commission from Amazon at no extra cost to you.

The Solution To Avoiding A Grease Fire

As the grease/ash collection system on the Weber SmokeFire Gen 2 is exactly the same as the Gen 1 whats the solution? Now, I know some have said in response to the issue, people should just clean their grill properly?!.

Trust me, Im all about proper pellet grill cleaning as Ive discussed in my article on when to clean a pellet grill, however

Its true more frequent cleaning of the grease/ash out of the bottom of the Weber SmokeFire would resolve the problem, for the most part.

Though you have to remember, that other pellet grills dont suffer from this issue to the same degree as they have the means to keep the grease away from the flames of the pellet fire .

Hence, people have been picking up a Weber SmokeFire after owning a Traeger, Pit Boss etc, cleaning at the same frequency and experiencing grease fires which they never had previously.

So you may be thinking, Weber surely is aware of the problem? So why have they not changed the design of the Gen 2 Weber SmokeFire pellet grills to address the problem?!

Well, there are benefits to the current design for high temp grilling, so I can see why Weber is reluctant to change the design. However, they are definitely aware of the problem as they originally discussed in their Tips & Tricks for low and slow on the Gen 1 Weber SmokeFire.

Well, Weber is sticking to this solution, and they now promote the Wet Smoke Kit for the SmokeFire pellet grills.
