How Does A Kamado Grill Work
Kamados are distinctively egg-shaped and very easy to recognize. Typically, the cooking vessel sits on a stand, though more traditional-looking tables are available. Some may feature work surfaces attached to the outside of the grill.
The lower two-thirds of the Kamado is where the coals burn beneath the grill. The top section is a domed lid, usually with a thermometer built-in. Top and bottom vents are how you control the temperature.
A good Kamado seals tightly when the lid is closed, and the interior is designed and built to reflect the heat evenly around the interior. Ceramic is the most commonly used material, though metal models are also available.
Rather than using briquettes, they work best with lumpwood charcoal.
For smoking, you can add big hunks of wood to your charcoal. The fire sits near the bottom of the cooker on a small grate above the firebox. Air flows in from the bottom, and ash falls into an ash catcher.
A fire ring sits above the smoldering coals, upon which the grill rests. Various accessories can also be placed on the fire ring, but well come back to those later.
As mentioned before, the grill is at the top of the lower section of the Kamado. The upper section is the hinged lid, and the adjustable-top vent caps the whole thing.
Best Aluminum Kamado Grill Blaze Cast Aluminum Kamado Grill
So far, we mentioned only ceramic and steel kamado grills. But, did you know that there is an aluminum kamado grill? Blaze introduced to the industry the first kamado grill made out of solid cast aluminum. The all-aluminum design provides incomparable durability and outstanding temperature control and heat retention. Just like other kamados, you can use the Blaze Kamado for backyard grilling, cooking, smoking, and baking.
The grill features a user-friendly design and it is quite easy to maintain it as well. The grill doesnt have a firebox, so you get more space for charcoal. In addition, the entire bottom of the BBQ is covered by an ashtray which ensures easy ash removal. The best part is that this grill needs to be cleaned every once in a while.
What Makes This Grill Stand Out From Traditional Grills
It is not just in the way that they look that separates the kamado grill from other forms of grills and is why you want to look for the best kamado grill for that night out. What really helps to make this a very useful cooking vessel for the vast majority of people who use it is the fact that it provides a uniform heat throughout the grill.
What also separates the kamado grill from most other types of barbecue grills is the variety of foods that can be cooked in this vessel. The versatility is one of the biggest selling points of this grill, and is why it has become so popular over thousands of years.
Of course, taste is a primary reason as well. These ceramic grills provide such an incredible flavor for your grilled food, giving you such tastes as oak, hickory, or maple. They are also ideal for smoking meats.

Considerations For The Best Kamado For You
Named after the Japanese word for stove, Kamado grills , can be used both as a grill and a smoker, which makes them incredibly versatile. Whether youre planning to have a BBQ party, looking to whip up a homemade pizza, or yearning for tandoori chicken, a Kamado grill can do it all.
Depending on the number of people you typically cook for, the type of food youll be cooking, and how often youll be using it, there are a number of factors to consider to ensure that you get the best Kamado for your needs.
From construction quality to accessories included, size of the cooking area to multi-level cooking features, here are 6 key considerations to help you make the right choice.
Clean Up And Maintenance
Like any grill, if you want your kamado grill to last, you need to do the kind of things that will care for it. Some of the parts on the grills that the Grills Forever team has reviewed include metal, which means that you need to protect them from the elements, or they can become rusted. There are some options that come with rustproof metals, such as those Big Green Egg BBQs, removing your concern for this kind of deterioration.
You want to make sure that you clean all cooking surfaces on a regular basis, especially just before cooking food. Many decide that simply letting the flames burn away the material on the grill is good enough, but this can still leave a residue and bacteria that can be harmful to you. It is best to clean with an approved cleanser, and thoroughly rinse to ensure that no cleaner remains.
When not in use, store your grill in a location that keeps it free from being damaged, and also out of the elements. You want the most value for your product, and taking a risk by leaving it out in a storm can lead to damage and a need to replace it. This is not a good use of your money.

Should I Use Coal Briquettes Or Lumps As A Fuel Source
There is no right answer to this question, it all depends on how you intend to use your kamado grill. Some people prefer to use smaller chunks and briquettes for faster ignition and faster temperature rise. However, with smaller parts you risk some of them falling through the vent, making a mess. There is one guideline, though: try to use the coal of the same brand as much as you can. Different coals burn with different heat, and by using the same brand, you diminish the chances of over-burning.
